If you're thinking of going to Green Cay Nature Center and Wetlands this weekend make sure you look out for the many Roseate Spoonbills being seen. We had NINE of the ROSP on my count yesterday. We also had 19 Semipalmated Sandpipers. This is even more exciting since this is a new bird for our little 100 acre park.
For the next month or two the water levels on the eastern side of the wetlands will be lowered to restore some plantings lost in our cold winter. This wasn't done to help the birds but we are reaping the benefits. In addition to the Semipalmateds we also had Lesser Yellowlegs, Spotted Sandpipers, Killdeer, and of course many Black-necked Stilts with their young.
If you're out enjoying the holiday weekend stop by and don't forget to post your observations in the nature center.
