Purple Martins at the Wetlands

Our Purple Martins at Green Cay will be fledging soon. You can see below that the parents are very busy feeding the hungry babies. I love the photo of the one with its gaping mouth stuck through the hole. Our first Purple Martin sighting this year was the earliest on record. We had a scout spotted the last day of December 2009. I expect that the whole flock of martins will be out of the nests by the beginning of July. That means you have one more month to enjoy this beautiful bird at our facility. Come check the out!

All of these photos were digiscoped using an Elite Eagle Optics scope and an Olympus 12 megapixal digital camera. If you don't have a pair of binoculars ask to borrow a pair at the Green Cay Nature Center front desk, it's free!
