A pair of Northern Flickers excavated a nice cavity near the Green Cay boardwalk last week. Unfortunately the starlings were relentless once again at attacking them. The last I saw, a pair of Red-bellied Woodpeckers were playing near the hole but I wouldn't be surprised if the starlings thwart their plans as well. It's a shame that the starlings are becoming such a problem at Green Cay. I liked it better when seeing a starling was rare at the wetlands. I guess those days are over.
