Shoveler Time

Blue-winged and Green-winged Teal arrive each winter at Green Cay but other kinds of ducks are few and far between. By the end of the season we will usually have one Ruddy Duck, one merganser, and a few scaup show up. For whatever reason, we just do not get much variety and if something shows up it is usually a solitary individual and probably only hangs out for a few days. But every now and then something goes against the norm. For instance, for the past two weeks we have had the Northern Shoveler seen below hanging out by the boardwalk. I can't believe it has stayed this long. You better believe I'm soaking in my good looks of this almost laughable-looking bird.
