Green Cay NAMC

I can sum up the Green Cay NAMC (North American Migration Count) in one word: Redstarts. We had over 22 American Redstarts for the day. In total we counted 54 species. Some notable species include 2 Soras still hanging around late for the season, 4 Blackpoll Warblers, 5 Killdeer including one on a nest, and 23 Black-necked Stilts, also nesting. I was joined by 3 wonderful volunteers who helped me compile over 574 individuals in total for a 4 hour time span. This is just one of the many reasons that I love my job. I hope that all the rest of you had a wonderful count as well. And if you didn't join in the fun you should come out for the fall NAMC at Green Cay.

Fantastic projects there at Green Cay! I'm up the road in Stuart, a 6th grade science teacher myself and can certainly appreciate your work in Florida's environment.

If I take a trip to Green Cay in late May - will there be any birds left to see?

Check out last May's bird counts to see what would be most likely found this year (all bird counts are word files): http://pbcgov.com/parks/nature/green_cay_nature_center/birdcounts.htm

If you see anything interesting let me know.
