Veteran's Day

In honor of Veteran's Day I celebrate my grandfather John Lewis Matthews Jr. who served in World War II as a tank mechanic.  He never talked about the war and understandably so since he lost his brother in it.  I knew Pop many years later as a gentile, kind, sweet man.  He really was a wonderful grandfather and I miss him dearly.  He taught me to drive a car, to drive a tractor, to work in the garden, and feed cows out of the back of a truck  He also taught me the art of cane-pole fishing and how that was a perfectly fine way to spend the afternoon.  He also taught me kindness and patience. I miss you Papa.  Happy Veteran's Day to all the people that have and continue to serve our country.
