Green Heron

There are many birds at Green Cay that I enjoy, especially during the winter when the Soras and Harriers keep things entertaining.  And of course there's migration, what birder doesn't enjoy some warbler and vireo action?  But as far as year-around residents go, I really love the Green Herons.  They can hunker down and look small and roundish or they can stretch out and look like a long lanky egret.  They can create a crest on their heads or keep it low key and sweep back.  They are my favorite Green Cay wader.  Here's a photo I took a week or two ago of one keeping a low profile.
