Photos taken by Bill Kominsky. The American Bittern is being an elusive bird for me this year. Almost on a daily basis someone is reporting a bittern off the trail but I somehow miss it every time. This winter visitor is a must-see during the next couple of months so I hope my luck improves. I really like this first photo above as it shows the bittern with a frog in its mouth.
