I love when the winter birds arrive at the wetlands. The parking lot is always filled with phoebes and catbirds. The hammocks have new life with hummingbirds buzzing about. On the last bird walk we had over 40 species. Not bad for one hour on the mile loop. The raptors have also been putting on a show with harriers chasing Red-shouldered Hawks. Merlins and Kestrals fighting for the best perches. There's always something interesting to see this time of year.
Also, today right outside the back doors I witnessed an alligator doing it's growling mating display. Not quite the right time of year for that but he was an eager fellow. It just proves that you never know what you may see when you walk outside.
