Snapper crosses the road

I know I promised red rocks, hiking, condors, and other Southwest specialties but I'm interupting (before I even begin) to show you a little turtle rescue that occurred recently.

Turtles are on the loose these days. I see them on the road, climbing on the islands in the wetlands, and dodging traffic on the sidewalk. This fortunate Common Snapping Turtle was rescued from a 4-lane busy road and brought in to Green Cay by one of our volunteers. I snapped a quick photo and off it was released to swim with it's brethen.

I did check to see if the turtle was gravid but I couldn't feel any eggs inside of her. Hopefully this new addition to Green Cay finds a nice home.
