Davie Purple Martins
There is a great article out in the Sun Sentinel about the Purple Martin roost in Davie. The show starts at 7:30pm each evening and can be seen from the Race Trac gas station. I haven't been down there yet but that will be remedied soon. The Green Cay Purple Martins left the nest boxes early this year. Last year we had Martins still hanging around until the end of July. This year they were out of year by the beginning of June. I'm guessing that this is due to the severe drought conditions we had earlier this month. When the Martins fledged they must have left for better food sources. It's too bad they couldn't wait another week or so because we've had rain every day since their departure and the insects are out full force.
